PIG CASTERS

Objectives – Reasons for Pig Casters

  • Disposing of Excess Iron
  • Environmentally Friendly
  • Unscheduled Stops in Steelmaking Plants
  • Maintain Regular Blast Furnace Operations
  • Saleable Product for Steelmaking Charge

  • Heavy Duty Machine
  • Large Volumes
  • Basic Shapes

OUTSOURCING - Relocate and/or Operate
Objectives:
The objectives are to systematically decommission, dismantle, remove, overhaul as required, ship, reinstall, start up, commission and operate an existing Pig Caster in operation.

Methodology: - Typical operation production and cost
The pig machine will be shut down and all utility connections will be disconnected. The components of the machine will be split up into smaller parts and packaged into containers. The new site will be prepared for the Pig Machines utility requirements so when the machine arrives it can be reconnected. Interface and design integration with the new steel plant will be taken into consideration to incorporate the Pig machine into the new site. The containers will be shipped to the new site and removed from the containers and reinstalled.  The Pig Machine will be started up and tested and commissioned to assure it operates fully. It will then be put into operation and monitored for performance.

Achievements/Results

The Pig Machine having been removed and reinstalled in the new location will recycle an existing unit and provide Pig production to the new plant for less cost than purchasing a new machine. The Pig machine can while be transferred be completely overhauled as required and provide a relatively new machine for a fraction of the cost of a new unit.
